Inspired by a similar plan in Canada, police in the UK gave out free lollipops at the door of a nightclub to reduce rowdiness after closing time.
The idea was that drunken, late-night clubbers wouldn’t be inclined to shout or cause a disturbance while they were sucking on them. It worked.
