Cinnamon is tree bark. To make it, the inner layer of bark from a variety of evergreen trees is shaved off and dried, causing it to curl up into quills. After that, it’s either cut into sticks or crushed and made into a spice powder.  (, )

Medieval castle stairs were often built to ascend in narrow, clockwise spirals so right-handed castle defenders could use their swords more easily. This design put those on the way up at a disadvantage (unless they were left-handed).
